Joseph Spector is New York Editor for Politico, overseeing government and politics coverage in Albany and New York City.

Spector previously served as the USA TODAY Network’s Atlantic Region Government Accountability and Politics editor, overseeing coverage in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

In 2019, he created the New York State Team, serving as its editor and working with reporters across the state. He was the Albany Bureau Chief for Gannett from 2009 through 2019 and has been a political reporter in New York since 2002.

Spector is a Bronx native and lifelong New Yorker. As such, he’s a long-suffering Mets, Jets and Nets fan. He lives in the Albany area with his wife and two sons.
